Terms of Use
Roost is a record book, not a doctor. It stores what you tell it and reminds you what you asked to be reminded of. It does not diagnose, does not advise, and must never be relied on in an emergency. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
1. What Roost is
Roost is a free Android app for keeping a household's medical records on a single phone: profiles, medicines and reminders, vitals, documents and appointments. It is published by AppsInventor.
2. Not medical advice
Nothing in Roost is medical advice. Dose reminders, refill warnings, "days left" estimates, expiry warnings and first-aid reference pages are conveniences based on what you entered; they can be wrong if what you entered is wrong, if your phone is switched off, or if Android delays or suppresses a notification. Always follow the instructions on your medicine and the advice of your doctor or pharmacist. Never change a treatment because of something Roost showed you.
3. Reminders are best-effort
Reminders depend on the Android system: battery optimisation, Do Not Disturb, a powered-off phone, or a force-stopped app can all delay or prevent a reminder. Roost cannot guarantee that a reminder will arrive, and you should not treat it as a safety-critical alarm for a life-sustaining medicine.
4. Your data is your responsibility
Roost has no server. Your records exist only on your phone, encrypted. That means:
- If you lose the phone, break it, or uninstall the app, the records go with it unless you made a backup.
- Backups are encrypted with a passphrase you choose. We cannot recover a lost passphrase, and we cannot recover a lost backup. Nobody can.
- Keeping backups is worth doing. Keeping the passphrase somewhere safe is worth doing twice.
5. Acceptable use
Keep records about yourself and the people you actually care for, with the respect their information deserves. Do not use Roost to hold other people's medical information without a proper reason to have it.
6. No warranty
Roost is provided free and as-is, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, AppsInventor is not liable for any loss arising from use of the app, including missed reminders, incorrect information, or lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability where the law does not allow it to be limited.
7. Changes
These terms may change; the current version always lives on this page with its date. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it.
